Troubleshooting Common Lash Issues

Retention Issues

If your clients are experiencing premature lash fallout, it's likely due to a combination of factors including poor isolation, incorrect placement, adhesive problems, or improper aftercare. While these issues can be frustrating, identifying and addressing them is key to improving retention.

  • Poor isolation: Ensuring each natural lash has only one extension attached is crucial. Use a fine tweezer to separate lashes before application.
  • Placement errors: The placement of the extension is vital. Avoid placing too close to the skin to prevent discomfort and too far away to maintain a natural look. The base of the extension should align with the natural lash.
  • Adhesive issues: Proper adhesive care is essential. Check the expiration date, store it correctly, and monitor humidity and temperature during application. A thermometer and humidifier/dehumidifier can help maintain ideal conditions.
  • Improper aftercare: Educate your clients about the importance of aftercare. Provide clear instructions on avoiding oil-based products, excessive heat, and friction around the eye area.

Lash Clumping

Lash clumping often occurs when the adhesive hasn't fully cured. To prevent this, consider using a faster-drying adhesive, allow more time for the adhesive to dry between lashes, and carefully isolate the natural lashes before application.

Client Discomfort

Client comfort is paramount. Always prioritize their well-being during the service.

  • Check-in regularly: Ask your clients if they're comfortable throughout the appointment.
  • Tape placement: Ensure the lower lash tape isn't too close to the waterline and that the client's eyes are completely closed.
  • Adhesive fumes: Minimize eye irritation by creating a comfortable environment with good ventilation and using a fan to disperse adhesive fumes.

Additional Tips

  • Practice makes perfect: Consistent practice will improve your technique and problem-solving abilities.
  • Quality products: Invest in high-quality lashes, adhesives, and tools.
  • Client education: Empower your clients with knowledge about lash care to extend the life of their extensions.

By understanding and addressing these common lash issues, you can enhance your lash artistry and provide exceptional results for your clients.
